Privacy

The controller is Solarpunk Horizons Inc., based in Atlanta, GA. For privacy questions, access requests, corrections, objections, or complaints, write to hello@wakewire.ai. Reading is open to everyone. Accounts are open worldwide. Wakewire is currently built around US news sources, and we expand as requests come in. Readers in the UK and EU have the rights set out below.

Account data includes your email address, password hash, and, if provided, your display name. If you use Google sign-in, we receive the account email, name, and avatar supplied by Google, not your Google password.

Profile data includes the topics you select, optional learning preferences, terms acceptance, and source requests you submit for Wakewire to review. A source request is a request for consideration, not a promise that the source will be added to your personal feed.

Reading data includes the brief and chapters you open, approximate dwell time, and the relevance scores used to order your personal brief. We also receive operational data such as browser, device, IP-derived security signals, request logs, and error information when needed to operate and protect the service.

• Contract: create and secure your account, deliver the briefing, apply your topic preferences, process deletion, and respond to account requests.
• Legitimate interests: prevent abuse, debug failures, keep the service reliable, improve editorial quality, and measure aggregate product use.
• Consent: optional Google Analytics. You can decline or withdraw optional measurement at any time.
• Legal obligation: retain or disclose information where applicable law requires it, and handle rights or safety requests.

Optional Google Analytics 4 is held behind the cookie choice. Google Consent Mode starts analytics and advertising storage denied. If you decline, Wakewire does not intentionally send optional analytics events. Necessary hosting and security technologies may still operate, including Cloudflare's __cf_bm bot-management cookie when Cloudflare applies it. That cookie is used for security and is not an advertising profile.

Analytics events may include a page, funnel milestone, broad interaction, or source-request action. We do not use these events to make legal, credit, employment, housing, or insurance decisions about you.

The morning email records when you open it, using a small image, and which of our links you click. We use this only to count how many readers open and read the email. The cookie choice on the website does not cover this. Mail apps that block images, or that load them automatically, make these counts approximate.

When you use the rights page or write to rights@wakewire.ai, we collect your name, organization, email address, the page or episode concerned, the details you give us and, for an excerpt notice, your typed signature and statements. We use this only to review and answer the request, to act on it, and to keep a record of how it was handled. Our legal basis is legitimate interests and, where applicable, legal obligation. Acknowledgment and reply emails are sent through our email delivery provider. If you ask for a reply to be published, the reply text and the name you give appear beneath the read. We keep the personal details in a rights request for 12 months after it is closed, then delete them. Content removed after a request is hidden right away, kept for 12 months in case of dispute, then deleted. Our corrections log keeps a record that a removal happened.

We use infrastructure and service providers for cloud hosting, authentication, database and storage operations, email delivery, analytics, error monitoring, and language-model processing. Providers receive only the data needed for their service. Language-model processing is used for brief and podcast analysis content, not your account email or reading-history identity. The morning email is delivered by Resend, which receives your email address and the email itself. Every morning email has a one-click unsubscribe link.

Some providers may process data in the United States or another country outside the UK or EU. Where a transfer is required, we use the safeguards available under applicable law, such as an adequacy decision or standard contractual clauses where appropriate.

We keep account and profile data while your account is active. Reading history and ranking data are kept while needed to order your brief and support Wakewire Learn. Source requests remain while they are useful for review and service records. Consent records and security/audit records are kept for as long as needed to demonstrate choices, investigate abuse, or meet legal obligations. Operational logs are rotated according to operational need. Podcast transcripts we generate are internal working material, never shown to readers, and kept only as long as needed for analysis and corrections, at most 12 months. Backups may retain deleted data until their normal expiry, after which it is removed or overwritten.

You can delete your account from Settings. Deletion removes the account profile, topic preferences, source requests, reading history, and associated account data, subject to limited records we must retain for security, legal, accounting, or fraud-prevention reasons.

You can change topics and learning settings, submit or withdraw a source request where available, change your cookie choice, unsubscribe from non-transactional daily or product email, and delete your account. Depending on where you live, you may have rights to access, correct, delete, port, restrict, or object to processing, and to withdraw consent without affecting earlier processing.

Email hello@wakewire.ai from the address on the account. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority. Transactional account, security, and legally required messages may still be sent after marketing preferences change.

If you are in the UK or the European Economic Area, the UK GDPR or the GDPR gives you rights over your data. You can ask us to give you a copy of it, correct it, delete it, send it to you in a portable form, restrict how we use it, or stop using it where we rely on legitimate interests. You can withdraw consent at any time. You can also complain to your local data-protection authority, such as the ICO in the UK.

Our providers may process data in the United States. We rely on the EU-US Data Privacy Framework and its UK extension where a provider takes part in it, and on standard contractual clauses where it does not. To use any of these rights, write to hello@wakewire.ai with "UK/EU request" in the subject. We aim to answer within one month.

To get a copy of your data, write from the email on your account. We send you a file with your account details, topics and settings, source requests and reading history. Account deletion is also available in Settings.

How long we keep each kind of data:

• Account, profile and topic choices: until you delete your account. Backups may hold a copy for up to 30 more days.
• Reading history and ranking data: while your account is open.
• Operational and run logs: up to 90 days.
• Rights requests: 12 months after the request closes.
• Podcast transcripts we generate: at most 12 months.

You have the right to complain to a supervisory authority: the data-protection authority where you live or work in the EU, or the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) in the UK.

Accounts are for people 16 or older, wherever they live. Wakewire is not for people under 16. We do not knowingly collect their data, and we delete accounts we learn belong to them.
